Rifleman S/15356 GEORGE JOHN THOMAS BULLEN of 1st battalion the Rifle Brigade was reported Missing in Action on 1 July 1916, the first day of the Battle of the Somme.

He enlisted in Lewisham in December 1915 and sailed from Southampton to Rouen to join his battalion on 10 May 1916.

He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial to the Missing of the Somme

He is remembered on the memorial at St Augustine’s Church, Grove Park.

Details:
He was 22 years old, the son of Mrs Emily Bullen of Marvels Lane, Lee. When enlisted he gave his occupation as shell marker.
