War Service: David Bruce served as a Private with the Machine Gun Corps and his service number was 99280. He died on 7th February 1919 at Southwark Military Hospital, East Dulwich, aged 28.

Location of Memorial: He is buried in Brockley cemetery, where his name is recorded on the screen wall listing those whose graves have no headstone.

Details:David Bruce was born on 20th June 1890 to David William Browning Bruce and Harriet Bruce. He was baptised on 23rd July 1890 at St Michael and All Angels Church, Woolwich.

His father died in 1898 aged 44. In 1901 he was recorded living at 4 Lower Wood, Street, Woolwich with his widowed mother Harriet.

He married May Gertrude Parson 7 July 1910 at St Augustine's Church, South Bermondsey.

In 1911 he was recorded living at 15 Bush Road, Rotherhithe with his wife May Gertrude and son David John Reginald. He was also living with his parents in law, John and Mary Amelie Parsons. He was employed as a delivery clerk for the port authority.
