Briselden, Thomas Harold

War Service:
Private 270780 THOMAS HAROLD BRISELDEN of the10th (Royal East Kent and West Kent Yeomanry) Battalion, The Buffs (East Kent Regiment) died on 31 October 1917, aged 20. He joined the West Kent Yeomanry in November 1914. He served in Gallipoli from September 1915 until the evacuation in January 1916. He developed enteric fever and was for a time in hospital in Alexandria eventually transferring to Birmingham University Hospital. He transferred to the Buffs in 1917 and embarked on the troopship Ivernia at Marseilles.

The ship was torpedoed on 1 January 1917 but he was picked up and landed on Crete. He served in Egypt and Palestine before being killed in action on 31 October 1917.

He is buried and remembered in Beersheba War Cemetery, Israel.

He is remembered on the war memorials at Lewisham United Reformed Church, St Dunstan's College and the Bellingham Bowling & Lawn Tennis Club.

Details:
He was born in Lewisham in the summer of 1897, the eldest son of Councillor Thomas and Mrs Elizabeth Briselden, of "Langleybury," 24, Bromley Road, Catford. He was educated at Plassey Road Council School and St Dunstan's College, Catford.
