2nd Corporal 129162 FRANK ALLAN BRERETON MM and Bar of ‘F’ Special Company Royal Engineers died of wounds on 10 June 1918. He is buried in Fosse No.10 Communal Cemetery, Sains –en-Gohelle. The Royal Engineers Special Companies were responsible for the transport and deployment of chemical weapons (gas).

Location of Memorial:

He is remembered on the roll of honour of St Mark’s church, Clarendon Rise The church tower was destroyed during WW2 and the rest of the building demolished in 1980 and the roll is now displayed in St Stephen’s church.

Details:

He was 26 years old, the son of Mr and Mrs H. Brereton, of 13, Rhyme Rd., Lewisham. His brother Ernest died on 3 July 1916 while serving with the Royal Field Artillery.
