War Service:
Private 68461 STEPHEN BISHOPP MM of the 17th Battalion Royal Fusiliers. Stephen died on 7 May 1918, aged 28 at Burg, Germany and is buried in Berlin South West cemetery. The date of his death and the location of his grave suggests he was a prisoner of war.

The award of his Military Medal (“for bravery in the field”) was announced in the London Gazette of 12 March 1918.

He is remembered on the memorial at Lewisham United Reformed Church.

Details:
He was born in Guildford in September 1889 the son of Stephen and Ada Elizabeth Cecelia Bishopp, of 24 Lewisham Park, Lewisham. He was educated at St. Olave's Grammar School from April 1901 to April 1905. He married Amy Alice Hendrie in Hendon in the spring of 1916; they lived at 77, Thurlby Road, Wembley.
