War Service:
Charles Hugh Birch was a Private [service number L/114456] in the 2nd Bn Royal Fusiliers. He died during the capture of Flers on 15 September 1916, in the Battle of Flers-Courcelette, when it was entered by the New Zealand and 41st Divisions behind tanks, the innovative new weapons that were used here for the first time. His date of death is recorded at 16 May 1916.

He is buried in the A I F Burial Grounds, Flers [IV C 23].
