Betts, John Edward

Dates: 1882-1917

War Service: John Edward Betts served as a Private with the 2nd/1st Battalion London Regiment (Royal Fusiliers) and his service number was 202873. He died of his wounds on 15th May 1917, aged 35, and is buried at Favreuil cemetery.

Location of Memorial: He is remembered on the St Pauls, Deptford WW1 War Memorial.

Details: John Edward Betts was was baptised on 17th September 1882 at St Marks Church, Camberwell and at this time the family were living at 49 Trafalgar Cottages.

In 1911 he was recorded living at 39 Mornington Road Deptford with his parents Edward and Alice. He had two brothers, James Walter and Albert W, and a sister, Florence. He was employed as a sheep skins dresser.
