War Service:
Lance Corporal PO/2030(S) AUGUSTUS HERBERT BEAL of the 1st Royal Marine Battalion, Royal Naval Division died on 26 October 1917, the opening day of the second battle of Passchendaele. He was 34.
The Royal Naval Division was formed in 1914 at Crystal Palace and originally comprised seamen reservists who were surplus to the requirements of the Navy’s ships. As the war progressed Marine and New Army battalions were added to the original sailors.
He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial.

He is remembered on the memorial at St Bartholomew’s church, Sydenham.
Details:
He was born in Bromley in the spring of 1884. In Lewisham in the summer of 1905 he married Emma Louise Potter of 7 Fir Place, Union Street, Farnborough Hants.
