Lance Corporal 8064 JOHN ARTHUR BARROW of 1st battalion Devonshire Regiment died on 29 July 1916. He was a reservist and was recalled on the outbreak of war. He went to France on 22 August 1914.

He is buried in St Sever Cemetery, Rouen. Most of the burials in this cemetery are of men who died in the numerous hospitals around Rouen.

He is remembered on the memorial at Catford police station.

Details:
He was the son of Mary Barrow, of Barnstaple, Devon and husband of Mabel Barrow, of 149, Percy Rd., Shepherd's Bush. .After previous military service he served as PC 811 at Lewisham police station before being recalled on the outbreak of war. He went to France on 22 August 1914

Extract from Police Orders of Saturday 8th August 1914:

Police Reservists
The undermentioned officers having been directed to rejoin the Army, for service with the Colours, will be retained on the Strength of Force as Supernumaries “off pay” and are to be so shown on the Morning State. They will receive pay as shown : - 4th inst.
