War Service:
Rifleman 8759 CLEMENTS DAVID JAMES BARNES of 1/16th battalion London Regiment (Queen's Westminster Rifles) was killed in action on 8 April 1917, aged 22. He had previously served with the 2/2nd battalion Royal Fusiliers. He enlisted in October 1914 and served in Gallipoli.

He is buried in Agny Military Cemetery, near Arras.

Location of Memorial:
He is remembered on the war memorial at St Dunstan’s College in Catford.

Details:
He was the only son of Robert George and Sophia Sarah Barnes, of 242, Stanstead Rd., Forest Hill. He was educated at St Dunstan’s College. The Clements Barnes Memorial Prize for Spoken English was endowed by his mother in his memory.
