Staff Sergeant EDGAR HARRY WILLIAM BARFOOT MSM,MiD, of the Army Service Corps died of broncho-pneumonia on 23 October 1918 in No. 5 Stationary Hospital, Dieppe.
He served with the Lines of Communication HQ from 27 August 1914 until the time of his death.
The award of the Meritorious Service Medal (‘in recognition of valuable services in the Field’) appeared in the London Gazette of 1 January 1918. A report of his earlier Mentioned in Dispatches was in the Gazette of 5 January 1917.
He is buried in Janval Cemetery, Dieppe

He is remembered on the memorial at the church of St Catherine, Hatcham.
Details:
He was born on 9 November 1890, the eldest son of Harry and Marie Barfoot of 163, Waller Rd., New Cross. He was educated at the Roan School in Greenwich and worked as a commercial clerk before enlisting on 6 August 1914.
