During the Boer War Edward Martin Bannister is believed to have started with French's Scouts as a Trooper, Corporal and pay Sergeant 37755 then was a Guide with the Field Intelligence Department. For his time with French's Scouts he was issued the following medals: the South African Medal and 3 clasps, the Cape Colony, Orange Free State and the Transvaal. He was also awarded the SA 1901 and 1902 during his time with the Feild Intelligence.
