Flight Lieutenant (Navigator/Bomber) ALBERT JOHN BALSOM of 59 Squadron RAF died on 3 December 1945, aged 23. He was one of 28 airmen and soldiers killed when a transport Command Liberator crashed in France, probably en route to India. The aircraft is believed to have been struck by lightning.

All the dead are buried in Rochefort-sur-Mer Naval Cemetery in South West France.

Location of Memorial:
He is remembered in the Memorial Book at Addey and Stanhope school in Deptford.

Details:
He was the son of Albert E. Balsom and Alice Balsom and husband of Dorothy Jane Balsom, of Brockley.
