Sergeant Abraham Baker of the Labour Corps died on 27 February 1919. He had previously served with the Middlesex Regiment.

Location of Memorial:
He is remembered on the screen wall of the Commonwealth War Graves plot in Ladywell cemetery.

Details:
Abraham was born in 1876 at Chatham, Kent. He lived there until at least 1891. On the 15 December 1900 at St Bartholomew's Church, Sydenham he married Sarah Jane Lazenby and by 1901 they were living in Wells Park Road, Sydenham. Sarah sadly died in 1908 and was of 19 Longton Avenue, when she was buried at Ladywell Cemetery in plot D Grave number 3272, after having 1 child Alice Matilda Lazenby Baker in 1902 and died in 1917. In 1911 Abraham was a boarder at 49 Coombe Road, Wells Road Sydenham. In 1913 he married Charlotte Bennett in Lewisham. They had the following children: Marjorie Francis [1913], Henry George [1914], Gwendolene Maud [1916] and Herbert George [1918].

Abraham died at 7.50 pm on 27 Feb 1919 after suffering for 6 months of an abscess in his right shoulder and a chest condition at London General Hospital, Poplar. He was buried at Ladywell Cemetery 6 March 1919 and is remembered on the CWGC plot as above.
