He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial to the Missing of the Somme.

He was the son of Alfred and Minnie Gertrude Back, of "Lyndhurst," Inglemere Rd., Forest Hill. Before he enlisted in the army he was a clerk at Lloyds Bank.
