Atkins, George Bernard

Dates:
Winter 1894 to 7 December 1915.

War Service:
No.1421 Queen's Own West Kent Yeomanry. He enlisted in Maidstone, Kent. Killed in action in the Helles sector [Gallipoli] on December 7, 1915, aged 21 years.

His remains were recovered for burial. However, after the war his grave could not be positively identified by the Imperial (later Commonwealth) War Grave Commission, so he is today commemorated on Special Memorial A. 40 in Twelve Tree Copse Cemetery, Helles.

He is also remembered on United Reform Church WW1 War Memorial, Lewisham.

Details:
Born in 1894 (December quarter) in Greenwich, London, the son of George Glennie Atkins, furniture shopkeeper, and Emily Elizabeth (née Bailey) Atkins of 22-24-26-28, Blackheath Road, Greenwich. He was unmarried. In civil life lived in Lewisham, London.
