Lance Corporal [service number 20561] 4th Battalion Grenadier Guards, died 13 April 1918 at the battle of Estaires or Lys, Ypres, Belgium.

He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Ploegsteert Memorial [Panel 1] with other soldiers with unknown graves from the battle of Estaires or Lys.

Location of Memorial:
He is also remembered on the Holy Trinity Sydenham War Memorial.

Son of John [1866 - 1935] and Rebecca Ashman [1866/8 - June Q 1918 Lewisham][nee Smith married June Q 1891 Lambeth RD], of 3, Russell St., Sydenham. Mentioned on parent's grave at Ladywell Cemetery
