Captain KENNETH BENJAMIN ASHDOWN of 91 Field Regiment, Royal Artillery died of wounds on 27 January 1944. During the winter of 1943 the Allies tried unsuccessfully to breach the German defensive positions known as the Gustav Line which stretched eastwards across Italy from the River Garigliano. It was not until 17 January 1944 that the Garigliano was crossed and Minturno taken two days later.
He is buried in Minturno War Cemetery.

He was 29 years old, the son of Harry and Lilian Ashdown and husband of Doreen May Ashdown, of Catford.
