War Service:
Lance Bombardier 880384 SAMUEL ARTLEY of 139 Field Regiment, Royal Artillery died on 13 February 1944.

He is buried in Taukkyan War Cemetery, the largest of the three war cemeteries in Burma (now Myanmar). It was begun in 1951 for the reception of graves from four battlefield cemeteries at Akyab, Mandalay, Meiktila and Sahmaw which were difficult to access and could not be maintained. The cemetery now contains 6,374 Commonwealth burials of the Second World War.

Location of Memorial:
He is remembered on the memorial to 91 and 139 Field Regiment, Royal Artillery in St Swithun’s church, Hither Green.

He was 24 years old, the son of Walter and Jane Ann Artley and husband of Eveline Artley, of Thorpe Bassett, Yorkshire.
