Second Lieutenant SYDNEY HERBERT AGATE of 4th battalion Bedfordshire Regiment was killed on 13 November 1916 during the Battle of the Ancre.

He was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant on 5 August 1916 and this was his first time in action. He is buried in Knightsbridge Cemetery, Mesnil-Martinsart.

He is remembered on the war memorial at St Hilda’s church, Brockley.
