In 1947 the composer Adam Carse gave his collection of more than 300 European wind instruments to the Horniman Museum in Forest Hill in memory of his son Edward Adam who was killed in action in February 1945.

A brass plaque recording the gift is mounted on the wall of the Music Gallery: "In Memory of Edward Adam (Peter) Carse, killed in action on February 27, 1945".
