Albion Way Shelter, Lewisham

Details:
About 4 pm on 11 September 1940, a disastrous public shelter incident happened. In Albion Way, Lewisham the brick street shelter suffered a direct hit, as a German bomber discharged his remaining bombs as he returned to Germany. 36 died inside and nearby. According to archive records the death toll was higher with 5 unidentified, so 41 died not 36.
